3 REASONS WHY SPF SHOULDN'T BE USED EVERY DAY TO PROTECT FROM AMBIENT SUNLIGHT

1. YOU DON'T NEED TO PROTECT AGAINST SUNBURNS DURING THE DAY

The SPF index is about sunburns. But how useful is it that your SPF30 might protect you from sunburns for 3 hours ? On a regular day, you don't need 3 hours of consecutive protection, you need sporadic protection during the 10 or 20 minutes that you're going to spend out and about during the day, when you step out for lunch, or go grab coffee, or walk to your afternoon client meeting.

2. SPF FADES AWAY WITHIN 1-2 HOURS

Presuming you have applied enough sunscreen on your skin (which is extremely doubtful especially if you use a moisturiez or make up with SPF), by the time you get to the office in the morning, it is pretty much gone. The large majority of people don’t replenish throughout the day, starting with those who wear make up. The SPF sprays or mists that are around ? Definitely not enough SPF goes on your skin anyway!

3. SUNSCREEN'S INGREDIENTS SAFETY IS UNDER GROWING SCRUTINY

What we put on our skin goes into our bloodstream, we know that. Popular sunscreen ingredients like oxybenzone, octinoxate or octocrylene are known to impact our DNA and our endocrinal system. Using sunscreen every day might put our health at risk, and we have absolutely no data to substantiate that they're either safe or unsafe. But when you consider that oxybenzone, THE ingredient that was in the very large majority of sunscreens so far, is being banned because it harms the corals, it says enough about how harmful it can be on our health.

WHAT SCIENCE SAYS ABOUT IT

Incidental Sun Smart Serum: naturally stimulates the SPF in your own skin.

Our innovative serum features new generation melanin activating peptides that mimic the action of sunlight and stimulate your skin's natural sun protection. Melanin is the natural pigment that protects the skin against the harmful effects of UV radiations, while allowing vitamin D synthesis.

This serum won't change your skin tone or create hyper-pigmentation: the peptides strengthen the efficacy of your melanin, allowing your own sun defenses to activate whenever your skin is exposed to UV rays through a regular day.

A 360 skincare solution against photo-aging, our serum also contains a proprietary blend of anti-oxidants, marine and plant derived ingredients with anti-aging benefits, primarily targeting UVA, blue light and IR related damages. UVA, blue light and IR have damaging effects year-round, not only during the sunny season.

Clean formula, no harmful ingredients. French conception, US manufacturing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. CAN I WEAR INCIDENTAL SUN SMART SERUM IN PLACE OF A SUNSCREEN?

Incidental Sun Smart Serum isn’t a sunscreen, that works by shielding your skin from UV rays. Our clinically-advanced skincare Smart Serum primarily helps support the skin’s natural sun defense and repair mechanisms, while fighting the signs of photo-aging. It’s a year-round, everyday, all day booster serum formulated to allow a worry-free experience during passive exposure to UV light (aka incidental sun exposure). Unlike a sunscreen that you need to replenish, Smart Serum is photo-active and only needs to be applied once a day. But for that trip to the beach or pool, always wear the appropriate clothing and/or sunscreen to avoid sun burns (and your Smart Serum!)

2. IS THERE A RISK OF HYPER-PIGMENTATION ASSOCIATED WITH USING INCIDENTAL SUN SMART SERUM?

Hyper-pigmentation, which is the appearance of uneven pigmentation on different areas of the skin, can unfortunately be the consequence of many factors including hormonal and systemic. On a strict skincare level, independent tests performed on our serum have shown no disruption in the distribution of the pigmentation.

3. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INCIDENTAL SUN SMART SERUM AND A TRADITIONAL SUNSCREEN?

Our products are not meant to either compete with or replace traditional sunscreens; we use a different approach and Skinergies’ products are not meant for the same situations.Traditional sunscreens contain filters – chemical or mineral – that act as shields and either absorb or block UV light from penetrating the skin, hence preventing the synthesis of vitamin D. They are typically used during the sunny season or when intentionally going to the beach or pool. For a sunscreen to be truly efficient, a certain quantity of the active SPF ingredient must be applied to the skin (hence making products like sunscreen sprays or makeup with SPF not as effective because the active SPF ingredient is too diluted). Plus, sunscreen must be reapplied every hour or so to maintain protection.

Skinergies is different. Our products are designed to restore the skin’s own photoprotection and repair properties, helping to naturally manage the impacts of passive sun exposure, a mechanism called photoadaptation. That’s why we recommend using our products all year. First of all, premature aging culprits such as UVA, blue and infrared light (IR) are equally intense in the winter as in the summer. But also because our melanin needs to be constantly stimulated if we want it to be efficient, especially when the strength of UVB’s intensifies during the sunny season. Finally, even in the absence of direct sunlight, our products work on stimulating the activity of the melanocytes, without the risk of creating hyperpigmentation.

4. WHY DON'T YOUR PRODUCTS CONTAIN SPF?

SPF, or sun protection factor, is the commonly used unit of measure for the level of UVB filtering in a sunscreen. And while overexposure to UVB rays can cause the skin to burn, UVB are the rays that help the body synthesize Vitamin D, and allow for an increase in melanin levels—both of which are very beneficial to overall health. Skinergies products are conceived to help the skin synthesize vitamin D and restore its natural photoadaptation properties, for a better management of the impacts of sporadic and passive sun exposure on the skin and health. Our ingredients have antioxidant and moisturizing properties, and blue light, IR, and UVA filtering properties.

5. IS THIS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN? DO YOU HAVE CLINICAL STUDIES?

All the key active ingredients that are in our products, starting with the melanin activating peptides, are provided by established laboratories and come with clinical studies that demonstrate their performance. We use these ingredients at their highest recommended concentration, for an optimum efficacy. Our products are scientifically formulated, clinically tested, dermatologist approved and all our customer reviews are 100% positive. We're a young brand and as soon as we grow bigger, we'll run a customer satisfaction survey with an independent lab.
