Besides when (and if) you wear a hat, your scalp and hair are ALWAYS exposed to sunlight, whether outdoors or indoors, without any proper protection. Applying sunscreen on the scalp is not an option for some obvious reasons. And people don't think about the harmful UV-A rays year-round, indoors or outdoors, that bombard our scalp and hair and cause more damage than burning UV-B in the spring-summer.

4 reasons why THE scalp and hair need proper protection from uv radiations
The scalp and hair are the most exposed while the least protected parts of the body
13% of melanoma happen on the scalp
UV-B rays cause sunburns (who's never had a sunburn on the scalp during the spring-summer season?) and more importantly, the constantly active UV-A rays, that penetrate deeper in the skin, create favorable condition to skin cancer and melanoma. It's estimated that 13% of melanoma happen on the scalp. Since it's difficult to detect any unusual activity on the scalp, such melanoma can be quite dangerous if they're diagnosed too late.
UV radiations also cause the hair to age faster
When we think about premature aging, we picture wrinkles and dark spots on the face or décolleté. Well, the scalp doesn't wrinkle, but it dries out under teh effect of sunlight and other environmental aggressors, hence suffocating the hair roots. Plus, the roots of the hair themselves get constantly bombarded by UV-A rays that cause accelerated graying, thinning, discoloration (the hair loses its natural pigment), loss of structure (the hair gradually loses its protein called keratin).
Deterioration on hair by UV-rays is irreversible
Once the hair is damaged by UV radiations, it's too late, the hair is dead and it's only the growth of a new hair that will make up for it. Think twice before spending too much money in repair creams and masks because besides soothing the hair superficially by coating it, it won't bring it back to life.
WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING
ABOUT INCIDENTAL SUN SCALP & HAIR MOUSSE
"I’ve been using this product for 3 months and I love it. My hair is smoother and shinier than ever, and my scalp is less itchy. I feel my hair is also thicker and fuller. I usually get a few sunburns on the scalp in the summer because I don't pay attention. I can't wait to see what happens this year !"
"I first bought this product out of curiosity, because I was going to the Caribbean in the winter. I'm fair skin, I burn easily and quickly. I started using the product about a week before the trip, and every day there. Loved the texture, loved the fact that it disappears while giving the roots some volume. I didn't burn, not even a pinkish tone which never happens. I'll definitely keep using it through the summer."
"As a guy in his 40's I've been losing some hair and this product is perfect: I apply it everywhere on my head with a vigorous scalp massage, it's not thick or greasy, it melts quickly and it's natural. Nice smell, not too strong."
"I never thought about protecting my scalp and hair until my sister told me about this product. My hair is dark, thick and short, and I always get a sunburn on my hairline in the summer. This mousse is just great !"

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. IS INCIDENTAL SUN SCALP & HAIR MOUSSE A SUNSCREEN?
Incidental Sun Scalp & Hair Mousse isn’t a sunscreen, that works by shielding your skin and hair from UV rays. Our clinically-advanced skincare Scalp & Hair Mousse primarily helps support the scalp and hair natural sun defense and repair mechanisms, while fighting the signs of accelerated aging. It’s a year-round, everyday, all day booster mousse formulated to allow worry-free moments during passive exposure to UV light (aka incidental sun exposure). It's the only genuine incidental sun protection product on the market today, specifically conceived for an every day use, without leaving any residue. But for that trip to the beach or pool, make sure you wear a hat to avoid sun burns (and your Scalp & Hair Mousse !)
2. WHY IS THERE MELANIN IN THE MOUSSE ?
Melanin is the natural pigment that not only gives our eyes, skin and hair its color, but also has photoprotection and repair properties. Infusing the scalp and hair with additional (and all natural) melanin is a way to help the scalp and hair make up for the inevitable loss of melanin caused by overexposure to UV rays, specifically during incidental, passive sun exposure. By supplementing the existing melanin, it helps keeping the scalp and hair shaft protected against photodamage, including photo-bleaching.
3. IS IT WORKING WITH TREATED HAIR? DRY HAIR? WET HAIR?
Incidental Sun Scalp & Hair Mousse has been tested and works perfectly with all hair type, including treated hair (color, keratin ...). It can be used with wet or dry hair. You can style your hair the same way you usually do it.
4. HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO USE THE MOUSSE?
For an optimum prevention, it is recommended to use it year-round to maintain the natural sun defense properties active. On a daily basis, it can be used in the morning by spraying a doorknob size of mousse into the palm; spread it evenly through the fingers, apply on scalp and massage in, insisting on the hair line. You can reapply throughout the day if you want. The mousse can also be applied along the length of the hair for a maximum protection effect.
5. IS THIS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN? DO YOU HAVE CLINICAL STUDIES?
All the key active ingredients that are in our products, starting with the melanin activating peptides, are provided by established laboratories and come with clinical studies that demonstrate their performance. We use these ingredients at their highest recommended concentration, for an optimum efficacy. Our products are scientifically formulated, clinically tested, dermatologist approved and all our customer reviews are 100% positive. We're a young brand and as soon as we grow bigger, we'll run a customer satisfaction survey with an independent lab.
WHAT SCIENCE SAYS ABOUT MELANIN
"The shielding effect of melanin [...] is achieved by its ability to serve as a physical barrier that scatters UVR, and as an absorbent filter that reduces the penetration of UV through the epidermis. The efficacy of melaninas a sunscreen was assumed to be about 1.5-2.0 sun protective factors (SPF); possibly as highas 4 SPF, implying that melanin absorbs 50% to 75% of UVR. An SPF of 2 means the doublingof protection of the skin against sunburn."
Kaidbey KH, Agin PP, Sayre RM, Kligman AM. Photoprotection by melanin--a comparison of blackand Caucasian skin. J Am Acad Dermatol 1979;1:249–260.
"We can find no consistent evidence that use of chemical sunscreens reduces the risk of melanoma.[...] Sunscreens do, however, reduce acclimatization to UVR and vitamin D production in the skin."

"Scientists believe that melanin protects the DNA in skin cells against damage from UVB rays by absorbing the incoming radiation. It isn’t perfect, [...] but the new study in the journal Current Biology shows that the body mounts its defense much sooner, well before it becomes apparent in the form of a tan."
ELENA Oancea, NADINE Wicks, Jason Chan, Julia Najera, Jonathan Ciriello - BROWN UNIVERSITY - NOV 3, 2011
"[...]Skin adapts to chronic UV radiation by increasing melanogenesis, thickening of the skin, activation of DNA repair systems, triggering cell cycle and growth inhibitors, enhancing cellular differentiation and sensitivity to apoptosis, increasing antioxidants and initiating anti-inflammatory effects. Skin that is not chronically exposed to UV radiation is more easily burned, indicating that we should be receiving regular, chronic sun exposure.[...]"

HOW SUNLIGHT ACTUALLY DAMAGES YOUR HAIR
We constantly hear and read about the impact of UV radiations on our skin and about photo-aging, but have you ever wondered how photodamage can also impact your hair? Before anything else, let’s get things straight: there is no hair SPF product on the market, it’s just not a thing. SPF is for the skin, and for the skin only. So for the scalp maybe, but not for the hair, which can actually seriously get damaged by UV radiations.
HOW YOUR HAIRDRESSER CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE
Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer. Fortunately, your hairdresser can learn to identify it early by using the simple acronym ABCDE. Many hair salons are referring patients to dermatologists as they find abnormalities on their client’s scalps.
You may think of your hairdresser as just the solution for another bad hair day, but did you know they could actually save your life?
THE BALDING MILLENIAL: THE IMPACT OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY
Millenials are experiencing hair loss at an alarming rate, and vitamin D deficiency is partly to blame. Hair loss can be humiliating, especially at a young age, so it’s important to maintain healthy levels of vitamin D. Spending time outdoors and eating food rich in Vitamin D during the winter are two ways you can ensure you’re getting enough vitamin D for healthy living.
