3 REASONS WHY SPF SKINCARE OR MAKE UP IS USELESS WHEN IT COMES TO DAILY PASSIVE EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT

1. THERE'S NOT ENOUGH SPF THAT GOES ON YOUR SKIN

The layer of either moisturizer or make up (foundation, powder or else) is so thin that the amount of SPF on the skin is insignificant. So when you think you're protected, you're actually not.

2. SPF FADES AWAY WITHIN 1-2 HOURS

By the time you get to the office in the morning, whatever amount of SPF you had on the skin is gone (also valid for regular sunscreen by the way). And it's not at 9 or 10am that you need it the most anyway.

3. MOST OF US NEVER REPLENISH THROUGH THE DAY

The large majority of people don’t replenish throughout the day, starting with those who wear make up. The SPF sprays or mists that are around ? Back to #1!

FORMULATED TO ADDRESS

PASSIVE EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT

YEAR-ROUND.

80% of our exposure to sunlight is sporadic, passive and incidental, and it accounts for 90% of the damage to our skin. We wanted to create a skin care solution for all of us to experience worry-free passive exposure to sunlight.

Incidental Sun Smart Serum is not a sunscreen. It is a booster serum that gently activates your melanin, and naturally restores your skin's own sun defense, for your protection to activate automatically, whenever you need it.

It is enriched with all natural anti-photo-aging ingredients, derived from renewable marine resources and plants.

WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY ABOUT INCIDENTAL SUN SMART SERUM

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. CAN I WEAR INCIDENTAL SUN SMART SERUM IN PLACE OF A SUNSCREEN?

Incidental Sun Smart Serum isn’t a sunscreen, that works by shielding your skin from UV rays. Our clinically-advanced skincare Smart Serum primarily helps support the skin’s natural sun defense and repair mechanisms, while fighting the signs of photo-aging. It’s a year-round, everyday, all day booster serum formulated to allow a worry-free experience during passive exposure to UV light (aka incidental sun exposure). Unlike a sunscreen that you need to replenish, Smart Serum is photo-active and only needs to be applied once a day. But for that trip to the beach or pool, always wear the appropriate clothing and/or sunscreen to avoid sun burns (and your Smart Serum!)

2. IS THERE A RISK OF HYPER-PIGMENTATION ASSOCIATED WITH USING INCIDENTAL SUN SMART SERUM?

Hyper-pigmentation, which is the appearance of uneven pigmentation on different areas of the skin, can unfortunately be the consequence of many factors including hormonal and systemic. On a strict skincare level, independent tests performed on our serum have shown no disruption in the distribution of the pigmentation.

3. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INCIDENTAL SUN SMART SERUM AND A TRADITIONAL SUNSCREEN?

Our products are not meant to either compete with or replace traditional sunscreens; we use a different approach and Skinergies’ products are not meant for the same situations.Traditional sunscreens contain filters – chemical or mineral – that act as shields and either absorb or block UV light from penetrating the skin, hence preventing the synthesis of vitamin D. They are typically used during the sunny season or when intentionally going to the beach or pool. For a sunscreen to be truly efficient, a certain quantity of the active SPF ingredient must be applied to the skin (hence making products like sunscreen sprays or makeup with SPF not as effective because the active SPF ingredient is too diluted). Plus, sunscreen must be reapplied every hour or so to maintain protection.

Skinergies is different. Our products are designed to restore the skin’s own photoprotection and repair properties, helping to naturally manage the impacts of passive sun exposure, a mechanism called photoadaptation. That’s why we recommend using our products all year. First of all, premature aging culprits such as UVA, blue and infrared light (IR) are equally intense in the winter as in the summer. But also because our melanin needs to be constantly stimulated if we want it to be efficient, especially when the strength of UVB’s intensifies during the sunny season. Finally, even in the absence of direct sunlight, our products work on stimulating the activity of the melanocytes, without the risk of creating hyperpigmentation.

4. WHY DON'T YOUR PRODUCTS CONTAIN SPF?

SPF, or sun protection factor, is the commonly used unit of measure for the level of UVB filtering in a sunscreen. And while overexposure to UVB rays can cause the skin to burn, UVB are the rays that help the body synthesize Vitamin D, and allow for an increase in melanin levels—both of which are very beneficial to overall health. Skinergies products are conceived to help the skin synthesize vitamin D and restore its natural photoadaptation properties, for a better management of the impacts of sporadic and passive sun exposure on the skin and health. Our ingredients have antioxidant and moisturizing properties, and blue light, IR, and UVA filtering properties.

5. IS THIS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN? DO YOU HAVE CLINICAL STUDIES?

All the key active ingredients that are in our products, starting with the melanin activating peptides, are provided by established laboratories and come with clinical studies that demonstrate their performance. We use these ingredients at their highest recommended concentration, for an optimum efficacy. Our products are scientifically formulated, clinically tested, dermatologist approved and all our customer reviews are 100% positive. We're a young brand and as soon as we grow bigger, we'll run a customer satisfaction survey with an independent lab.
